Launch at the Hawthorns for Cyrille Regis

Cyrille 'left almost speechless after receiving a king's welcome during his book launch at the Hawthorn's'

There was a great turn-out for the launch of  ‘Cyrille Regis – My Story’ (Andre Deutsch) at The Hawthorns. Scores of former players and managers joined family and friends and Cyrille seemed almost overcome by the warmth of the reception he received. Cyrille’s story is an extraordinary one – from his arrival from French Guiana in 1963 when he and his family lived in a one bedroom maisonette and confronted racism at its most virulent every day, to becoming one of the legendary ‘Three Degrees’  with his great mate the late Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson under Ron Atkinson at WBA and getting an England call-up from Ron Greenwood. Now a born-again Christian and MBE, Cyrille’s dedication to his sport and the welfare of young footballers has made him one of the most admired figures in the game.
