Hitler’s Greatest General

Mungo Melvin's biography launched

A glittering array of military top brass assembled at Chatham House to celebrate the launch of Manstein: Hitler’s Greatest General (Weidenfeld) by Mungo Melvin. Manstein was the mastermind who created the plan for the 1940 blitzkrieg that overran France in just six weeks. He played a key role in the invasion of Russia and conquered the Crimea, but failed to rescue the doomed Sixth Army at Stalingrad, his most controversial campaign. However his defeat of the Red Army at Kharkov in a brilliantly-designed counter-attack has been studied in military academies throughout the world ever since. Mungo, who speaks fluent German has had special access to Manstein’s private papers and is regarded as one of the British Army’s most brilliant strategists -  which makes him the ideal author for this book.
