Linda Hoy
Linda Hoy Groping in the Dark - has written fourteen books for children and young adults and edited two anthologies. Her first novel, YOUR FRIEND, REBECCA, is a set book in many comprehensive schools. Her novel for younger children, HADDOCK ‘N’ CHIPS was the winner of the 1994 Children’s Book Award and UNITED ON VACATION was shortlisted for the same award in 1995.
Linda’s first television play, EMILY, was winner of the Silver Award for Drama in New York in 1985; she received a Writers’ Award from the Arts Council in 1999 for her first adult novel.
Linda has run creative writing workshops with such diverse groups as prisoners, probation officers, psychiatric patients and innumerable school and university students. She has a particular interest in spirituality and the interfaith movement - an area explored in much of her poetry. She’s held positions of responsibility in the Society of Friends (Quakers) and is an inspirational speaker and workshop leader.
Linda loves walking and cycling in the Peak District National Park. She has a special affection for good curry houses and for listening to live rock and alternative country music. She is presently the Royal Literary Fund writer-in-residence in the Department of Animal and Plant Science at Sheffield University. Linda lives in Sheffield with her mountain bike.
