His fascination with the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam started over 20 years ago, when it provided an important relief from the pressures of international travel and high-level meetings. He was always a collector by nature, so it was no surprise when his bookshelves gradually filled up; now he has about 200 different editions of the Rubaiyat – 'a very modest collection' in his view.
